Cost/Value Methodology In Clinical Practice Guidelines And Performance Measures
ACC/AHA Statement on Cost/Value Methodology in Clinical Practice Guidelines and Performance Measures
Given accelerating health care costs and the desire to achieve the best value, the time has come to include cost-effectiveness/value assessments and recommendations in practice guidelines and performance measures.
Nomenclatures of “value” and “resource utilization” are emphasized over “cost” as part of a plan to evaluate the evidence base and provide an overall value classification together with a supporting level of evidence.
Defining how medical decisions should be made between value and guideline recommendations is controversial, but it is hoped that highlighting these instances explicitly and transparently will further inform appropriate discussion and policy making.
