STROKE Webinar Series
Brought to you by STROKE
Journal of the American Heart Association

Started in July 2011, these webinars cover important topics in the cerebrovascular disease field, especially those with recent advances that will impact clinicians and researchers. The intention of the webinars is to provide participants with current and novel information on these high impact topics, and will consist of a structured lecture with appropriate slides by acknowledged thought leaders relevant to the topic under discussion. For the live webinar, participants will then have the opportunity to pose questions to the speaker after the formal presentation.
The archived webinars will be available via a link on My.AmericanHeart.org and the STROKE home page. These webinars will then serve as a valuable educational resource to the stroke community for enhancing knowledge about recent developments in this evolving field.
Register now for the third webinar in the series.

New Ongoing Review Series on Stem CellsCirc res cover
Edited by Stefanie Dimmeler and Douglas Losordo
from Circulation Research

Cell therapy holds great promise for the treatment of cardiovascular disease. For the past two decades, investigators have been developing methods to implant various types of cells to heal the heart and improve the recovery of the heart after ischemia. Although multiple experimental and several clinical studies showed that different subsets of bone marrow–derived cells and other adult progenitor cells improved the recovery of heart function, the mechanism of action and the extent to which adult progenitor cells are able to restore cardiac function in end-stage heart failure is debated extensively.

This ongoing review series will summarize the current status of cell therapy in clinical trials, discuss the potential of different cell types and ways to enhance their functions, and summarize the epigenetic molecular mechanisms that regulate stem cell functions and fate decisions.

New Video in Series:
Diagnostic and Therapeutic Cardiovascular Procedures

In its commitment to the cardiovascular community and to enhancing knowledge of advancing interventional and surgical techniques, the editors of Circulation announce a new video series on the current use, risks, and benefits of common diagnostic and therapeutic procedures crucial to the practice of cardiovascular medicine. The series will cover standard "bread and butter" procedures as well as some of the more novel procedures being pioneered in specialized centers. Each video in the series will capture footage of the most crucial components of the procedure in question as performed and narrated by leading experts in the field. PowerPoint demonstrations and a text article related to the procedure will cover the objectives for the case in question; the indications and contraindications for the procedure; patient preparation, monitoring, and safety; proper techniques; and interpreting and analyzing results.
